4 reasons Not to know the Gender of your Baby

Last night before bed time we picked up the subject again now knowing that we are pregnant. It has been decided... We will wait until the birth day to find out the sex of the baby :)

I know this is not very convenient for a lot of people, but here are 4 reasons it works for us:

1. HAND ME DOWNS
Both my Mother-in-law as well as my sister have had both a girl and a boy in the past 5 years.  My mother in law's twins (girl & boy) are 5 years old now and she has a lot of hand me downs for us in both genders. My sister has a 2 year old girl and a 30 day old baby boy. So in the case of a girl she has all those cute girly dresses that we mostly have picked out together in the past 2 years. If it is a boy, we will have the new born baby boy clothes. We welcome hand-me-downs because babies grow so rapidly anyway that most of the things are almost brand new anyway. So if you have friends or  family that have had kids and are willing to give you their hand me downs this could be a good reason not to Have to find out the gender if you want to keep it a surprise until the end of your pregnancy.

2. BREAKING THE NORM
Remember the little bit of excitement you used to feel when the phone rang before-caller id?  Or how you used to feel as a kid at Christmas just before opening your presents? Well for me the anticipation just made everything more exiting. And in our day and age where not much is left to surprise i think its important to embrace the opportunity even if it means going against the norm. I understand how some people are not going to feel the same way or even think that the decision of not finding out the baby's gender as soon as possible is wrong. But if you really feel like this is the way you want to go, don't let the majority break your spirit.

3. LOVE COLOR
My hubby and i are both lovers of bright and vibrant colors (this might be because we are both Aries). So not having everything in baby pink or baby blue is not a major sacrifice for us. For me coming up with cute ideas that would work either way is a nice challenge. But if you want your nursery to be gender focused then waiting to find out the sex until the end of pregnancy would probably not be the best idea.

4. OLD WIVES TALES
It will be fun to hear all the little games and methods people have for determining the baby's gender. Like if you carry high or low. Hanging your wedding ring over the belly; if it swings in a circle you are having a boy and if it swings back and forth then its a girl. There are so may silly things people come up with and i can see the fun in the whole concept.

Telling the family

Oh the Excitement!
I want to tell all my friends and family our news... But seeing as the 12 first weeks are a little fragile and i am still on my 4th; containing my self to just tell our parents and siblings will  have to do!

Last night when my hubby came home i gave him the news by showing him the positive pregnancy test. It took him a while to understand what exactly i handed to him and then hes expression was of pure joy. He has always said that he wants a dozen kids, so he was pretty exited and immediately wanted to tell everybody. So we agreed to tell only our immediate family and do so in person.

It just also happens to be my big sisters birthday (Happy Birthday xxx), so its pretty convenient that all of my family will be gathering together for the occasion. My idea on how to break the news will be to give my sister a Birthday card along with her gift and under all the birthday wishes to write:
P.s.: I am pregnant!

Pregnancy Test

Its been bugging me for two weeks... Am I, Am i not?
Well my phone app has let me know that today would be my first day of my period if i was not 1 day late. And as all the information on-line advises to wait until this first day of your late period to take the pregnancy test. Today will be the day!
I am not quite sure that i am 100% prepared to have our first new addition to the family but i am hoping that everything will just fall in to place somehow.

Calculations
It is hard to know exactly the date of conception as sperm is known to survive for a few days in the fallopian tube until the egg comes along. The method typically used to calculate your due date would be to count 40 weeks from the first day of your last period.

Using this method and if the test comes out positive...
Date of fist day of last period: 28th of January 2015
+ 40 weeks : November 4th 2015

So i went to the pharmacy and got my-self a home pregnancy test. The pharmacist handed me one called sensa-test and it is supposed to be 99% accurate.
How it works:
1line = negative resoult
2 lines= positive result  (if second line is faded it still means a positive result just with lower levels of hCG)
0 lines= invalid (there might be something wrong with the test so it would be better to buy a second one)
Here it goes.... 5 min latter!

Voila!!! its official :) we are pregnant!!!
