Last night before bed time we picked up the subject again now knowing that we are pregnant. It has been decided... We will wait until the birth day to find out the sex of the baby :)
I know this is not very convenient for a lot of people, but here are 4 reasons it works for us:
1. HAND ME DOWNS
Both my Mother-in-law as well as my sister have had both a girl and a boy in the past 5 years. My mother in law's twins (girl & boy) are 5 years old now and she has a lot of hand me downs for us in both genders. My sister has a 2 year old girl and a 30 day old baby boy. So in the case of a girl she has all those cute girly dresses that we mostly have picked out together in the past 2 years. If it is a boy, we will have the new born baby boy clothes. We welcome hand-me-downs because babies grow so rapidly anyway that most of the things are almost brand new anyway. So if you have friends or family that have had kids and are willing to give you their hand me downs this could be a good reason not to Have to find out the gender if you want to keep it a surprise until the end of your pregnancy.
2. BREAKING THE NORM
Remember the little bit of excitement you used to feel when the phone rang before-caller id? Or how you used to feel as a kid at Christmas just before opening your presents? Well for me the anticipation just made everything more exiting. And in our day and age where not much is left to surprise i think its important to embrace the opportunity even if it means going against the norm. I understand how some people are not going to feel the same way or even think that the decision of not finding out the baby's gender as soon as possible is wrong. But if you really feel like this is the way you want to go, don't let the majority break your spirit.
3. LOVE COLOR
My hubby and i are both lovers of bright and vibrant colors (this might be because we are both Aries). So not having everything in baby pink or baby blue is not a major sacrifice for us. For me coming up with cute ideas that would work either way is a nice challenge. But if you want your nursery to be gender focused then waiting to find out the sex until the end of pregnancy would probably not be the best idea.
4. OLD WIVES TALES
It will be fun to hear all the little games and methods people have for determining the baby's gender. Like if you carry high or low. Hanging your wedding ring over the belly; if it swings in a circle you are having a boy and if it swings back and forth then its a girl. There are so may silly things people come up with and i can see the fun in the whole concept.
